Ceramic protection tubes and insulators

Ceramic tubes are used when conditions exclude the use of metal, either for chemical reasons or because of excessive temperatures. There main applications are between 1000 and 1800°C. They may be in direct contact with the medium or may be used a gas-tight inner sheath to separate the thermocouple from the actual metal protection tube.

There are three main types of ceramic tubes that are most comonly used: The C530, C610 & C799.

C530- Sillimantin 60

AL2O3 content 73-75%, produced according to DIN EN 60672.

This type is one of the most frequently used ceramics. The C530 insulators and protection tubes can be used in temperatures up to 1400°C. An advantage is that this material has no reactions with heating elements.
The material has very good thermal shock resitance, but it is more porous than other materials.

C610- Pythagoras

This ceramic can be used in applications up to 1400°C  and it has a high chemical resistance against non-fluorine gasses. Furthermore, it has a good thermal shock resistance and good mechanical strength.

C799- Alsint 99.7

AI203 content 99.7%. This type is made according to DIN VDE 0335. It can resist temperatures up to 1700°C. Thanks to its high conductivity, it has a good thermal shock resistance. Also, the mechanical strength and the electrical resistivity are quite high. Working environments include hydrogen and other reducing gasses.
